‘Campfire Story’

Directed by Kristian Kane & Lewis Carter
Written By Lewis Carter
Produced by Fine Rolling Media

Campfire, was designed as an ambitious little short, allowing us to travel to a wide range of welsh locations, grabbing compelling shots from St Govan’s Chapel in Pembrokeshire, to Southerndown’s Dunraven Bay. This was my first project as a director, and I was joined by my Fine Rolling Media colleague – the award-winning filmmaker, Kristian Kane.

I wrote and designed this film as a ‘calling card’ short film — which would hopefully showcase my talents as a scriptwriter. I didn’t expect to learn as much as I did during the production of the film. This film made me a better visual storyteller by forcing me to make creative choices on set and troubleshoot production problems on a small budget.

We were incredibly humbled and proud to take home the award for ‘Best National Film, 2017’ at ‘Swansea Film’, especially as Campfire was a debut film, made with little to no budget.

Update: ‘Campfire Story’ is now a double award winner after winning ‘Best Horror Short’ at ‘London X4 Seasonal Film Festival’.

Campfire Story is proof of concept that it is possible to produce award-winning short film on a constrained budget.
