Welsh Documentary

Directed by Kristian Kane & Lewis Carter
Written By Lewis Carter
Produced by Fine Rolling Media

Synopsis:

The true story of how a chance interview turned into a long-term project to fulfil the dreams of ninety-two-year-old WW2 Royal Marine Commando, Ted Owens. Follow Ted’s journey from his remote coastal home in West Wales to numerous commando barracks, where he investigates what life is like for the modern day commando; and re-discovers a sense of comradery that’s only grown stronger over time.

Royal is an award-winning, welsh documentary about the modern day testimony of an incredible man who lived and fought on the front line during an age of extremes. As a filmmaker, it was incredible to be entrusted with the task of telling Ted’s story – and a little nerve-wracking with it being my first documentary. So, it was a huge honour for Royal to be named ‘Best Documentary, 2018’ by The Copper Coast International Film Festival.

We hope many more people will learn about this incredible man as Royal makes its way around the film festival circuit.

UPDATE: Royal is now a double award-winning film after winning ‘Best Documentary, 2018’ at Harrogate Film Festival.

The Premier:

Fine Rolling Media put on a sold-out premiere screening of “Royal” in Ted’s hometown. Guest of honour Ted was welcomed at the premiere as he saw the finished documentary for the first time.

We wanted to gather the community together in this unique event, to pay our respects to our hero Ted Owens. The night was topped off with a stunning painting of Ted by The VC Gallery. This screening wouldn’t have been possible without our partners in the community sector “The Darwin Centre.”
